Licensed, insured, and willing to prove it before you sign.

You should ask for documentation before you hire any contractor. Here's what we carry and how to verify it yourself.

Every person working an AE Roofing job is covered under a workers compensation policy. If a crew member is injured on your property, it is covered. You are not liable.

Protect yourself

What to ask before you hire any roofer.

Oklahoma brings in a significant number of out-of-state roofing companies after every major hail event. Some of them are legitimate. Many are not. The simplest way to protect yourself is to ask for three things before you sign anything.

01
Oklahoma CIB license number

Get the number, look it up at cib.ok.gov. This takes 60 seconds. A registered contractor will have no problem giving you their license number.

02
Certificate of insurance (GL and WC)

Ask them to have their insurer send the certificate with your name and property address listed. Not just a screenshot of a card. An actual certificate from the carrier.

03
Are the install crew trusted crews or subs?

If they use subcontractors, your warranty coverage is only as reliable as the sub's accountability. This matters more than most homeowners realize.

Licensing FAQ

How do I verify a contractor is licensed in Oklahoma?

Go to the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board website at cib.ok.gov and search the license lookup by company name or license number. Any licensed residential or commercial contractor in Oklahoma is in that database. If a contractor you're talking to is not in there, they are not licensed. Do not hire them.

What happens if a worker gets hurt on my property and the contractor has no workers comp?

You can be held liable. Without a workers comp certificate, an injured worker may have a claim against the homeowner's property insurance or the homeowner directly. This is not a hypothetical. It has happened to Oklahoma homeowners who hired the lowest-bid contractor after a storm. Ask for the workers comp certificate before any work starts. If the contractor hesitates, walk away.

What should I ask any roofing contractor before I hire them?

Three things. First, ask for their Oklahoma CIB license number and look it up yourself. Second, ask for a certificate of insurance showing general liability and workers comp, with your address listed as the project site. Third, ask if the installation crew are trusted crews or subcontractors. If the answers are vague on any of these, find another contractor. This is not an unreasonable ask. Any legitimate roofing company will hand you this documentation without hesitation.
